Finding Inspiration: The Terence Coventry Sculpture Park

Our windows team take to the South West Coast Path to search out sculptural forms.

If you follow the coast path south of the fishing village of Coverack, you’ll find the Terence Coventry Sculpture Park astride two clifftop meadows. Inspired by the natural world, Terence crafted pieces from wood, stone and metal. As you follow the paths that wind through the meadows, you’ll come across monumental sculptures of rooks, cows, owls and other wildlife.

A natural creative talent, Terence gained early admittance to the Stourbridge School of Art. He then studied at the Royal College of Art before he left London and started a career as a farmer on Cornwall’s south coast. He returned to his creative roots after 25 years as a farmer, and the park is a visual blend of his life on the farm and his love of creating figurative sculpture.

It’s where our Window Design Assistant, Janet Wild, headed when working on concepts for our latest windows. Inspired by Terence’s work, she took an abstract approach to three paper gulls in flight to bring our theme of The Evening Gull to life. The birds are all different and are displayed gallery-style in our shop windows, as sculptural forms balanced on cardboard plinths.

The Terence Coventry sculpture park is a 10-minute walk to the south of Coverack, contained in three small meadows that sit by the old coast path. Entrance is free, and there is parking available at Coverack village car park.
