The Evening Gull

As the setting sun gilds a September sea, we seek inspiration in the wild freedom of our coastal home.

Derek Tangye started writing his series, The Minack Chronicles, after he and his wife Jeannie left their glamorous lives in London to move to a little daffodil farm in the far west of Cornwall. His book, The Evening Gull, is both an ode to the beautiful landscape that surrounded their coastal cottage and a tribute to his wife.

Our collection joins Derek’s celebration of Cornwall’s rugged cliffs and dramatic seascapes. Dark cinnamon and deep indigo reflecting the colours of the turning tide, while Breton stripes and Gansey-inspired knitwear anchor a modern maritime mood.

A contemporary classic

As tied to our heritage as sailors are to the sea, our timeless Seasalt Sailor Stripes are coloured in fresh shades drawn from the last languid days of summer. Woven from yarn-dyed organic cotton, wear alone or as a transitional layer – with a striped cuff peeking out of indigo denim, or paired with soft greys and blues for a casual look that will take you from work to weekend with ease.

Seaweed prints

Our print artists turned to the ocean for inspiration, filling their sketchbooks with designs that spill from the pages to swirl across softly textured fabrics in rich, saturated hues. Our print designer, Alice, used pen and ink for a statement print that captures the fluid swirl of seaweed in the tide.

Layers to love

As summer sings its swansong, we bring you soft statement knitwear and warming, wool-rich coats in stormy neutrals to layer with as the days grow colder. Wear with organic cotton tops and floaty dresses, or pair feminine shirts with sturdy boots and workwear-inspired denim for a contemporary take on utilitarian style.
