Behind the scenes of our new shop opening in Westport, Ireland

We celebrate the opening of our new, lighter touch shop

On the West Coast of Ireland, the picturesque town of Westport is filled with cobbled streets and stone bridges. Like our Cornish home, it has a vibrant character, stunning coastline and relaxed way of life, making it the perfect spot for our newest Seasalt shop.

Designed with a lighter touch, our Westport shop showcases the ways we’re innovating to protect the environment. It takes a tangible step forward with its sustainable credentials and commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

The exterior of the shop boasts our traditional blue paint, with added hand-painted signage by Irish signwriter, Colm O’Connor. For the first time ever, we’ve also included digital screens in the windows, and we’re excited to share our love of Cornwall and bring our collections to life with videos of our coastal home.

Inside, we’ve used carefully sourced materials throughout to create versatile furniture and fittings that can be removed, reused and repurposed. We’re proud to work with Cornish craftspeople, and our pendant lighting is made in Falmouth by Tom Raffield, who steam-bends each piece by hand from sustainably sourced FSC and PEFC wood. Our flooring can be fully recycled and is made using 100% renewable electricity, while upholstery and fittings are also made in Cornwall by Sarah Harvard, who crafts pieces using fibres derived from recycled plastics.

We sourced surfaces for our new shop from our hometown of Falmouth, where they are made from natural materials that can eventually be recycled or composted. The wicker vases that adorn the shelves are from local maker Lin Lovekin, who hand-weaves these beautiful pieces from Cornish and Somerset-grown willow in Helston.

The shop opening included delicious cupcakes, refreshments and live illustration from Linda Byrne, who was sketching customers to the sounds of local musicians playing live music in the background. The whole day had a fantastic atmosphere, and we were delighted to be so warmly welcomed into Westport’s thriving community.
