With Design in Mind: New charity cards designed by you
Created in collaboration with Mind and 6 artistic Seasalt customers, here’s the story behind our new charity greetings cards.
Last year, as part of our partnership with mental health charity Mind, we launched With Design in Mind. A competition to celebrate the positive effects that arts and crafts can have on our mental wellbeing.
Over 200 entries later, we’re happy to introduce a set of charity greetings cards featuring the talented designs from 6 competition runner ups. All proceeds will go to Mind and be used to help support the charity’s important work.
With Design in Mind
In 2018, the BBC Arts Great British Creativity Test revealed that over three quarters of participants felt that creativity could help improve feelings of stress and anxiety, with almost a quarter naming a type of craft practice as their favourite activity.
With this in mind, we launched With Design in Mind and asked you to create a design that embodies a happy moment. It could have been anything from a place to a memory, pet, person or object… whatever a happy moment means to you.
We were so impressed with the talent, artistry and imagination of every single entry, but only one winner could be selected.
Creating the cards
We decided to reach out to our winner and 5 runner ups to create a collection of charity cards featuring their artwork. The result is a beautiful, collaborative set of cards, with each design depicting a positive scene to highlight the calm found in simple moments.
We will be donating all profits from the sale of each pack of cards to Mind. Meaning that every purchase will go towards the cost of running important services, such as Mind’s Infoline and online community, Side by Side.
In the artist’s words
We spoke to the talented creators of each design to hear more about what inspired their happy moment.
Rachel Evans
‘My design encompasses so much that makes me happy. Being outdoors, especially near the coast, really supports my sense of wellbeing. Taking time to notice the sights and sounds of nature around me, such as the sea holly or oystercatcher in this design, really helps me to tap into those mindful moments that ground you.’
Poppy Evans
‘I decided to draw a happy moment from my childhood, gardening with my Granny in the Kyles of Bute. Both of my grandmothers had their struggles and Mind is a charity close to my heart. This is for Jean and Maureen, who showed me to marvel at the little things.’
Svetlana Leht
‘One of my happiest moments is lunch with my husband and the best dog in the world, Juice.’
Joanna Little
‘Camping in nature is the greatest way to recharge and relax.’
Carla Boyles
‘Sometimes the quietest moments are the happiest.’
Fiona Smallwood
‘This design was inspired by Swanage Bay where I recently got engaged. It is one of my favourite places and holds a lifetime of happy memories for me and my family.’
Putting mental wellbeing first
We share Mind’s belief that no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. To support the charity’s vital work, we donated £100,000 in 2021 and will donate £200,000 more over the next two years.
If you feel like you need support with your mental wellbeing, the Mind Infoline number is 0300 123 3393. You can also learn more from Mind about arts and creative therapies here.
