Seasalt Words: Books to Support Your Wellbeing

Discover the titles that have made Pukka co-founder Sebastian Pole feel healthier and happier, plus watch him read from his herbal tea recipe book 'Cleanse, Nurture, Restore'

I first experienced the power of plants when I was eighteen. I was travelling in India and had a terrible stomach upset. An Ayurvedic doctor gave me a simple herbal blend and it cleared me up in a few days. I immediately wanted to find out how the blend had worked.

Why am I telling you this story when sharing my top five wellness reads? The answer is quite simple. Because ever since I have spent my life dedicated to learning about herbs as well as sharing my knowledge and inspiration. Supporting thousands of patients in my clinic (and having served hundreds of millions of cups of Pukka tea), I am left with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for how much joy and sustenance herbs bring to people.

“My overarching experience of ‘wellness’ is rooted in herbs. They help to make me a better person: more aware, more present, and more engaged. I hope that by sharing some of my inspiration with you, you’ll be able to begin a journey to better emotional and physical wellbeing. These books have been pivotal in expanding my knowledge.”
Science and Spiritual Practices by Rupert Sheldrake

A beautiful journey through our, seen, felt and unseen world.

In the theme of ‘make time’, I’d like to highlight this book. The effects of spiritual practices are now being investigated scientifically as never before, and many studies have shown that religious and spiritual practices generally make people happier and healthier. Rupert Sheldrake believes that by opening ourselves to the spiritual world we may find the strength to live more wholesome and fulfilling lives.

I have personally adopted many of the practices described in this book and experienced gratitude, empathy, and love because of it. This book made me feel more alive and be more present. I found it interesting to delve into the wide range of different worldviews and some important topics are covered, including how we should all connect with nature a lot more than we do.  I hope you enjoy reading this one as much as I did.
