Moments with Mind: Winter Woodland Gift Wrapping
Add a touch of nature’s beauty to your Christmas presents with this wintery wrapping tutorial from Kate at The Makery.
Even as the weather turns wintery, getting out in the fresh air for a walk in nature can bring calm, boost endorphins, and positively affect our mental wellbeing. Turn your winter walk into a foraging adventure and stock up on woodland gems to make these beautifully wrapped gifts created by Kate at The Makery.
You will need:
- Wrapping paper (Kate uses brown recyclable kraft paper)
- Scissors
- Tape
- Ribbon or twine
- Gift tag
- Glue gun
- Foraged foliage
On your winter walk, look for hardy green shoots that won’t shed their leaves too quickly, like ivy and pine. Kate also used rosemary and bay leaves from the garden, and festively fragrant extras from the kitchen: cinnamon sticks and orange slices dried in the oven.
Step-by-step instructions
- Wrap your gift. Make nice sharp creases for a neater finish.
- Choose a ribbon or twine to wrap your gift. You can keep it simple by just using twine, but sometimes it’s nice to use two contrasting textures together for a more luxe effect. Don’t tie a bow at this stage, just use a single knot.
- Arrange a little posy of foraged items to adorn your gift. Start with greenery as a base, then use something else as a topper. Kate’s used rosemary and ivy with cinnamon sticks, and rosemary with orange slices and a pinecone.
- Using your glue gun, stick the greenery together. Then tuck it under the twine or ribbon on your gift, gluing in place if it’s not secure.
- Glue the topper items together, one at a time, using your glue gun.
- If you’re able to secure your topper to your gift by tying a bow or knot around it with the ribbon or twine, do so now. If it’s too bulky, tie a knot then glue your topper over the top.
- Add a gift tag by sticking tape to the bottom and securing to your gift under the greenery.
