Leach Pottery From The Studio

Earlier this week we took a trip to St Ives to visit our friends at the Leach Pottery where we enjoyed a tour of the newly restored Leach Pottery studio, sat by Bernard Leach’s historic fireplace in the old workshop and enjoyed a warming cup of tea in a Seasalt mug which was handmade at the studio.

Before we headed back to Falmouth we called into the Pottery’s gallery where we were greeted by an array of beautiful cups, tea pots, water pitchers, fruit bowls, vases and chargers. Now we know this doesn’t sound unusual, but what make this display so special, is that it showcases the talent of its own international team of potters. The exhibition is called ‘From The Studio’ and the works on display include new takes on traditional forms which are finished with a range glazes, many of which have been in use at Leach since the 1940s.

The potters and students had one rule; to design whatever they liked. The exhibition shows off the skill of the makers as well as their creative instincts. It’s truly inspiring to see what can be made from a piece of clay. Needless to say, we came away with our usual sense of awe at the beautiful works of art they had created.

‘From The Studio’ will be on display until Saturday 31st January, with all pots for sale.
